Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has initiated a significant move by holding region-wise discussions with MLAs ahead of the budget session of the Assembly, scheduled for the third week of January 2025. During these meetings, the Chief Minister sought feedback on the implementation of budget announcements in their constituencies, invited suggestions for the upcoming budget, and assured the resolution of their grievances.
The Chief Minister also instructed his ministers to maintain continuous dialogue with MLAs and prioritize their opinions. This initiative is being seen as a strategy to address the dissatisfaction among MLAs before the Assembly session. In the previous session, several BJP MLAs had raised questions about their own government’s performance, prompting this proactive step from the Chief Minister.
Political analysts view this as an effort to build harmony within the party. However, the MLAs have expressed discontent with the working style of certain ministers and raised concerns over the appointment of favored officials, which they claim hinders the resolution of local issues. Particularly, MLAs from the Kota division have leveled serious allegations against some ministers, accusing them of ignoring the MLAs and favoring Congress leaders instead.
Chief Minister Sharma emphasized that the demands of the MLAs would be considered and highlighted the importance of strengthening the government’s connection with the public. While the government has made significant progress in projects like the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project and the Yamuna Water Agreement, it faces criticism from the opposition for not making these agreements public. Additionally, the Bhajanlal government’s decision to abolish nine districts and three divisions created by the previous Gehlot government has escalated political tensions, likely to impact the upcoming Assembly session.
It remains to be seen how the Bhajanlal Sharma government navigates the discontent among its MLAs and the opposition's challenges in the forthcoming session.
