### Jio’s 'Intelligent Shopping Cart' Will Automatically Generate Bills

Shoppers at grocery stores will no longer have to endure long billing queues, thanks to the introduction of Artificial Intelligence in shopping. Jio’s AI-powered shopping cart will automatically generate the bill for purchases. Reliance Jio showcased this groundbreaking technology at the India Mobile Congress 2024.

Using this system is quite simple. The intelligent shopping carts available in stores are directly linked to the billing desk. As a customer adds items to the cart, AI-equipped cameras and scanners on the cart capture the products and send the data to the billing desk, retrieving the prices from the database and adding them to the bill. If a product is mistakenly placed in the cart and later removed, its price will be automatically deducted from the bill. The billing desk will then scan the cart’s QR code, and the bill will be ready for payment.

Reliance Retail is currently running a pilot project of these AI shopping carts at select stores in Hyderabad and Mumbai. Due to the positive feedback from customers, the system may soon be implemented in other states.

Additionally, small shop owners will be able to integrate AI with electronic weighing scales. For instance, when moong dal is placed on the scale, it will not only weigh the item but also recognize it using AI-powered cameras. As a result, the weight and price of any product placed on the electronic scale will be instantly known. A designated area in front of the scale will function like the shopping cart, and placing packaged products there will automatically add their price to the bill.
