Virtual Meeting on Establishing a Modern Sports University in Madhya Pradesh

On January 30th, at 12:00 PM, a virtual meeting was organized by the Department of Education and the Madhya Pradesh Private University Commission. The meeting was attended by the Vice-Chancellors of state-funded and private universities, as well as officials from the Department of Higher Education. The primary objective of the meeting was to consult subject experts regarding the establishment of a modern Sports University in Madhya Pradesh.

The Madhya Pradesh government is preparing an action plan to establish a cutting-edge Sports University. In this regard, Professor Amarika Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Vikrant University, gave important suggestions during his address. He emphasized the need to develop the university as a multi-faculty institution to make it self-sustainable. He also stressed the importance of focusing on modern scientific facilities.

Professor Singh suggested that the university could become self-sustainable by incorporating various branches such as International School, Computer Center, Library, Paramedical, Home Science, and Naturopathy. He provided examples, stating that the country’s 100-year-old universities were established through donations or public-private partnerships. He also pointed out that the five major IITs in India were established with foreign collaboration. Similarly, he proposed that Madhya Pradesh should establish the Sports University through donations and public participation under new experiments.

He further recommended that the university be established in a location with easy connectivity across the country. Additionally, he suggested linking the university with the industry department to promote technical and vocational education. Professor Amarika Singh has made significant contributions to technical education in various universities in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, which could serve as inspiration for this initiative.
