### 23rd National Conference of RCA Alumni Council Concludes

Udaipur,  The 23rd National Conference of the Rajasthan College of Agriculture (RCA) Alumni Council was held at the college’s new auditorium, bringing together over 500 alumni from across the country and abroad. The event was a platform for celebrating achievements, rekindling memories, and addressing the future of agriculture in India.

Focusing on Self-Reliance in Pulses, Oilseeds, and Horticulture
Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Bhagirath Choudhary, who was the chief guest, emphasized the need for India to achieve self-reliance in the production of pulses, oilseeds, and horticulture products. While the country is self-sufficient in food grains, Choudhary stressed the importance of enhancing efforts to not only meet domestic demands but also become an exporter in these sectors.

Choudhary highlighted the pivotal role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in driving innovation and improving productivity in these areas. He assured that the Central Government is committed to supporting initiatives aimed at improving the production of pulses, oilseeds, fruits, and flowers. Reflecting on the resilience of Indian farmers during the COVID-19 pandemic, he praised their efforts in ensuring food security for 145 crore citizens, enabling the provision of free food grains to 80 crore individuals.

He also urged agricultural scientists to focus on sustainable practices, such as reduced chemical usage and efficient water management. He cited advancements in maize production, which has transformed from a traditional grain to a versatile crop used for food, fodder, and ethanol production, contributing to India’s green fuel initiatives.

RCA’s Contributions to Agriculture
RCA Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ajit Kumar Karnataka outlined the institution’s legacy since its establishment in 1955, describing it as a leader in agricultural innovation. He highlighted recent achievements, including the development of high-yield hybrid maize seeds like Pratap-6, which can double productivity without expanding cultivated areas. Karnataka emphasized RCA’s contributions in natural farming, millet research, and securing 24 patents in 2024, which reflect rigorous compliance with government standards.

Alumni Reunite and Revive Memories
The conference was not just about agricultural discourse but also a celebration of shared history. Alumni reminisced about their college days, exchanged contacts, and pledged to stay connected. The event was marked by the presence of notable alumni, including Padma Shri awardee Dr. R.S. Paroda and agricultural stalwarts like Dr. S.L. Mehta and Dr. Bhagirath Choudhary, who have made significant contributions globally.

RCA Alumni Council President Dr. Narendra Singh Barhat announced plans to award six scholarships to meritorious students annually and proposed hosting an alumni cricket tournament every year. Additionally, a guest house for alumni was proposed, with alumni committing to contribute to its construction.

Honors and Recognitions
The event honored over 30 students, faculty members, and farmers, including Radheshyam Keer and Ramesh Kumar Damor, for their contributions to agriculture. The family of late alumnus Dr. D.P. Sharma donated ₹2 lakh to the council in his memory.

The conference concluded with the release of the council’s annual souvenir and a commitment to furthering RCA's legacy in addressing the agricultural challenges of tomorrow.
