Ethical AI Crucial in Research, Caution Essential – Dr. Deepak Kumar Shrivastava

Kota, Rajasthan – Artificial Intelligence is a fascinating illusion, but its use in research must be approached with utmost caution, said Dr. Deepak Kumar Shrivastava, Divisional Library President of Government Public Mandal Library, Kota. Addressing research scholars during a national webinar, he emphasized that every piece of information sourced through AI must be verified from trusted databases, as unverified data could undermine the credibility and hard work of researchers.

Dr. Shrivastava was speaking as a resource person at the national webinar on “Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence and Role of Library in Literature Review for Research,” jointly organized by Brainware University (West Bengal), Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Library Professional Foundation (New Delhi), and the Center for Multidisciplinary Research Innovation.

The event witnessed participation from over 600 attendees and was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Vice Chancellor Prof. Shankar Gangopadhyay, Research Director Dr. Rakhi, Conference Director Bandana Basu, Cheti Ghosh, and L.P.F. President Dr. Anil Jharotia.

Dr. Shrivastava acknowledged that AI has simplified and accelerated the research process, but reminded that it remains merely an assistive tool. He stressed the need for scholars to exercise personal judgment and uphold ethical responsibility in using and sharing AI-generated information.

Highlighting the evolving importance of libraries in today’s research ecosystem, he remarked that libraries are the foundation for authenticated, verified, and ethically sourced information. “Artificial Intelligence can be your assistant, not your guide,” he stated, underlining the necessity of critically evaluating the origin, authenticity, and context of all research inputs.

His lecture served as a beacon of inspiration, urging scholars to maintain research integrity through innovation, ethical practices, and judicious use of digital resources.
