Udaipur, A massive protest was held by the Udaipur City and Udaipur Rural District Congress against a controversial remark made by Rajasthan's minister Avinash Gehlot regarding former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Accusing the "Parchi Sarkar" of suppressing opposition voices, Congress leaders condemned the statement and the suspension of Congress MLAs from the budget session.
Congress spokesperson Dr. Sanjeev Rajpurohit stated that Gehlot’s remark was highly derogatory and disrespectful towards India’s first female Prime Minister. He alleged that when Congress MLAs attempted to oppose the statement, they were suspended from the session, an act seen as an attempt to stifle dissent.
At 1 PM, Congress leaders and workers gathered outside the District Collector's office for a joint protest, which culminated in the burning of an effigy of the "Parchi Sarkar." Udaipur Rural District Congress President Kacharu Lal Chaudhary criticized the state government, stating that instead of acknowledging Indira Gandhi’s contributions to the nation, the government had resorted to baseless and disrespectful statements.
Udaipur City Congress President Fateh Singh Rathore also condemned the minister’s comments, asserting that suspending legislators for raising objections mirrored undemocratic tactics seen in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. He demanded an immediate apology from the minister and warned that such actions would not be tolerated.
The protest witnessed participation from senior Congress leaders, including former MLA Trilok Poorbia, PCC Vice President Suresh Shrimali, PCC General Secretary Pankaj Sharma, and former Minister Asrar Ahmed Khan, among others.
