Rajesh Gautam: An Inspiration Through Eye Donation*

Uma Devi’s son, Rajesh Gautam (46), a visually impaired resident of Talwandi, passed away this morning due to a heart attack. Born blind, Rajesh never allowed his disability to hinder his life. His open-hearted nature and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Rajesh was a regular blood donor and had served as a ‘Jyoti Mitra’ with Shine India Foundation for the past ten years, promoting eye donation. In 2013, he pledged to donate his eyes along with over 15 of his visually impaired friends. Rajesh viewed his blindness not as a curse but as an opportunity to lead a life full of positivity. He was a talented poet, writer, lyricist, tabla and harmonium player, and a motivational speaker.

Rajesh, a graduate through Braille, was admired for his confidence, well-groomed appearance, and punctuality, all of which contributed to his extraordinary personality. Upon realizing that although he could not see, his eyes could allow someone else to witness the world, he pledged to donate his eyes with Shine India. Despite his retina being damaged, his corneas were in good condition and were successfully donated.

Following his passing, his family members consented to the eye donation, which was completed with Shine India Foundation’s assistance at 6 a.m. Many close friends and members of organizations like the Rajasthan Drishtiheen Nishakt Jan Seva Samiti and Adarsh Divyang Seva Sansthan expressed their condolences, as did several social organizations in the city.

Rajesh Gautam’s life and his final act of eye donation stand as a powerful inspiration, demonstrating that with determination and a positive outlook, anyone can make an extraordinary contribution to society.
