Fear Among Teachers Due to Poor Law and Order*

Banswara:The Rajasthan Teachers' Union Siyaram has raised serious concerns over the increasing incidents of hooliganism, harassment, armed threats, land encroachments, and school lockouts faced by teachers. They have demanded strict legislative measures in the assembly to eliminate the prevailing atmosphere of fear among educators.

**Incidents Highlighted:**

1. **Dharna Village, Balotra District:** Teachers at the Government Upper Primary School were attacked with a knife.
2. **Rau Mavi Balerapura, Dholpur District:** An armed individual threatened and attacked a government school.
3. **Incident with a Junior Assistant:** The head of an institution was assaulted by a junior assistant for not marking attendance despite the assistant being absent.

The union has called for immediate and stringent action through a fast-track court against the individual who launched a life-threatening knife attack on teachers at the Government Upper Primary School in Dharna village, Balotra district.

**Statement from the Union:**

Arun Vyas, State Educational Cell Co-Secretary of the organization, stated that due to the inconsistent policies of the Rajasthan government, antisocial elements frequently enter schools, harass teachers, and assault staff and principals. He emphasized the urgent need for stringent legal measures to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety and security of teachers.

**Detailed Incident Overview:**

A deranged individual entered a government school carrying a knife and a can of petrol, locked a classroom with a teacher and students inside, and attempted to douse the teacher in petrol. The headmaster and other teachers who intervened were seriously injured in the knife attack. The staff and local villagers eventually subdued the attacker. The incident occurred at around 12:15 PM on Friday.

**Attack Details:**

DSP Neeraj Sharma reported that at approximately 12:15 PM, an individual entered the school with a bottle of petrol. When teachers attempted to stop him from entering the classrooms, he attacked them with a knife. Headmaster Hardayal Saini and teacher Suresh Rajpurohit were injured and taken to Nahata Hospital in Balotra for initial treatment before being referred to Jodhpur.

**Teacher's Account:**

Teacher Vimla Devi recounted that the attacker tried to pour petrol on them, wielded a knife, and locked the classroom doors, causing panic among the students. The headmaster managed to kick open a door, but the attacker still injured the teachers before being overpowered by staff and villagers.

**Community Reaction:**

Villagers captured the attacker, identified as Baburam (40), son of Punmaram Bhil, who is economically disadvantaged and mentally ill. He had previously climbed a tower and was talked down. Police confirmed that the attacker has a history of mental instability and has assaulted others before. The incident led to a large gathering of villagers at the school, where they locked the gates and staged a protest, demanding stricter action against the repeated offenses by the accused.
